"Can I Get A Witness?"

We just took time to remember and focus on the death and resurrection of Jesus. Some of the final words of Jesus are recorded at the end the book of Matthew that says, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.” Wasn’t that a great command… for these disciples? Yes it was, and they did in fact do what Jesus commanded them to do. What about today? Isn’t this a great command…for the missionary we support financially? The pastor we pay? The person teaching kids as V.B.S. in the summertime? Why yes, it is... But it’s not just a command for them…it’s a command for each of us.

1 Peter 3:15 says “… always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have…” If you read that passage, or any other passage in scripture, nowhere does it say that someone gets off the hook/out

of this assignment because of fear, anxiety issues, or lack of desire. We are all called to do this. So are you prepared to share the hope you have for salvation?

How that conversation comes about will vary, and getting used to bringing it up may take some time getting used…but are you prepared even for an opportunity as easy as presented in this verse…someone just coming up to you and asking you for the information? If not, it’s time to get prepared.

The basics of the gospel (the good news about Jesus) include:

1. The fact that we have all sinned (did wrong in God’s eyes) according to Romans 3:23.

2. Sharing the truth that the consequences of sin is death (separation from God in hell) as found in Romans 6:23.

3. The good news that God loves them in spite of what they have done and already proved it when he went to the cross to take the punishment for us he didn’t deserve as found in Romans 5:8.

4. The choice they need to make to confess and believe to trust Jesus as their Savior as found in Romans 10:9.

Jesus already came to be the Savior of the world. Jesus already paid the ultimate price of his life so we could have eternal life…we just spent resurrection Sunday remembering it. Now it’s time to share it…will you be willing to be a witness?

                                                                                                                                                Your fellow witness,

                                                                                                                                            Pastor Josh
